GIPS Logo Usage
The GIPS logo is a visual representation indicating that a firm claims compliance with the GIPS standards. Firms that claim compliance with the GIPS standards are only permitted to use the GIPS logo on a GIPS compliant presentation or on an advertisement that adheres to the GIPS Advertising Guidelines. Firms are prohibited from using the GIPS logo in any other manner.
Firms that claim compliance with the GIPS standards and use the GIPS logo must do so in strict compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Firms may make a nominative, fair use of the GIPS logo to indicate that the firm claims compliance with the GIPS standards (provided that the statement is true) with the following limitations:
- Firms must not use the GIPS logo in a way that is confusing, misleading, or disparaging.
- The GIPS logo must not be altered or modified in any manner, combined with other elements or rearranged.
- To ensure that the GIPS logo appears properly, all uses must be made from camera-ready artwork provided by CFA Institute and in accordance with the GIPS Logo Usage Guidelines (PDF).
- If the firm includes their own logo, the GIPS Logo must be of equal or smaller size and displayed with equal or less prominence than the firm's logo.
- Whenever a document includes the GIPS logo, the following notice must appear in bold, at the bottom, and in a font no smaller than 8 points:
“GIPS® is a registered trademark of CFA Institute. CFA Institute has not been involved in the preparation or review of this report/advertisement.”
CFA Institute ordinarily does not object to proper use of its trademarks to refer specifically to CFA Institute products or services — this is generally considered “nominative, fair use” under the law. However, this is not legal advice and adherence to these guidelines is not a guarantee of legality. Intellectual property laws vary from country to country and use to use.
Firms that wish to use the GIPS logo must e-mail the following information to us.
- Firm Name, Address, Phone Number, and Website
- Name, Phone Number, and E-mail Address of Contact at Firm
- Does the firm claim compliance with the GIPS standards?
- Has the firm been verified? If Yes, by which verification firm and for which periods?
Once this information is received, a confirmation e-mail will be sent with the camera-ready GIPS logo. Questions regarding use of the GIPS logo may be sent to us via e-mail.
